Yesterday I found The Flashbulb’s message to people downloading his record enclosed in a file called please_read.html on the blog RLSLOG.net
<click here to read it if you haven’t already>.
I was amazed when I realized what a genius move this is.
Why try to force YOU to pay for our music? It’s pointless, most of you are probably on a really tight budget like us!
Thus, I have decided to focus on selling mp3’s, giving away some for free and accepting donations. I think this is the way to go and now we are approaching a very interesting time in music history! So we have no set up an account which allows us to sell mp3’s right here from our website!
Do check out The Flashbulb’s new album, it’s awesome!
In other news: I finally got around to compiling the LINKS SECTION
So, I had been spending loads of time at EMS, where i study electro acoustic music composition and been recording a bunch of sessions with a buchla, serge and spring tank reverb and I thought: “Hey, this is pretty cool, maybe someone would like to listen to this?” So I decided to release it for free! Basically everything is recorded on the fly, sometimes several takes on top of eachother. I plan on releasing more of ‘em as I go along, I’m actually on my way there right now. What are you waiting for? DOWNLOAD IT NOW
If you enjoyed this release, please donate so we may attain better equipment and more free time to deliver music to you for free!
Although I don’t condone piracy I read this article by demonbaby about the whole oink hysteria and he made some really good points:
“If you like bands who are releasing music on open, non-RIAA indie labels, buy their albums! You’ll support the band you like, and you’ll support hard-working, passionate people at small, forward-thinking music labels. If you like bands who are completely independent and are releasing music on their own, support them as much as possible! Pay for their music, buy their merchandise, tell all your friends about them and help promote them online - prove that a network of passionate fans is the best promotion a band can ask for.”
What these kind of systems can be good for is the fact that it lets us preview stuff that we can buy. But if we just take all of it and give nothing back, aren’t we just simple theives?
Sublight records is what in my opinion a really good example of what happens when piracy goes to far.
I really hope those enourmously talented artists will find some other channel through which they can get their music out to a broad audience!
Two days filled with some of OXO’s best artists and some of Microdisko’s most renowned in-house artists?
Did I mention it’s free? Did I mention there’s no age requirement?
You really have no excuse not to come!
See you there!
Update 1: Late breaking news. Veqtor was on Swedish television about this event. Please check the clip below!
Update 2: The entertainment subissue of the local free paper Stockholm CITY sports a huge picture of nitro2k01 and one with a huge caption saying “Breakcore in focus on Blipp-Blopp Festival”. Stockholm CITY is read by more than half a million readers every day!
Update 3: Awt and Veqtor will be interviewed on the radio-show “Metropol Ute“. We’ve been promised that Awt’s track “Big Life” will be played on the show!
Edit: You can listen to the show below.
Here we have the second prototype of the Moxibustor glitch oscillator synth. The first prototype had slightly different components, and reminded me of a dub siren in some modes. The second prototype has slightly different components and also a second IC.
What does the Moxibustor do really? It has three knobs and a buttons. Each knob controls the frequency of an astable Schmitt trigger oscillator. The frequency ranges have are different on purpose, so one of the oscillators can go down to down to sub-bass frequencies, and work as an LFO, and one can go up to 1 kHz or so.
The three signals are mixed digitally at the resolution of 1 bit. This clips the three square waves even more, which gives an effect called intermodulation distorsion, which slightly, but not completely, resembles ring modulation. Then there’s also a secondary chip, a decade counter (Just happened to have it lying around :p )
The result is a glitchy thing that offers a variety of glitchy square wave-ish sounds.
But don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself.

So after some communication problems (Pun intended) it’s now official. I’ll be playing at the Moshpit 2007 festival. The festival is mainly an emo/rock festival, but this year they decided to dedicate one stage to electronic music, mainly chip music. (The battle stage) My fellow microdisko organizers Cornbeast and nxpnsv will play there too, as well as 7 others.
I find annoying how they mispelt my nickname. (nitro2kl instead of nitro2k01) But I don’t blame them too much, even I had a problem with it the first week I used it, so no wonder someone who types it for the first time gets it wrong.
Yes, ironically enough Veqtor is playing at Ministry of Sound on the 20th of august.
Wikipedia: “Ministry of Sound (MoS) is a nightclub in Elephant and Castle, Southwark, South London. Officially opened in 1992 after weeks of ’secret’ club nights, the Ministry had already been packed out through word-of-mouth. Ministry of Sound was one of the key locations in the development of house music and superclubs in Britain in the early 1990s“
